We’re halfway through 2026: What needs to stay and what needs to go?

This week marks the Summer Solstice – the longest day of the year (and I know it feels like Summer hasn’t even started yet….).

The word Solstice comes from the Latin meaning "the sun stands still." It is a pause point. A moment to take stock of where we are, where we've been and where we're heading next.

In a world that constantly encourages us to keep moving, achieving and striving, there is something powerful about being invited to stop. To reflect. To notice.

What narratives are running your life right now?

Perhaps it's the belief that you're not ready yet. That someone else is better qualified. That you shouldn't draw too much attention to yourself. That your ideas aren't quite good enough. That you need to wait a little longer before stepping forward.

The challenge is that these stories rarely stay as thoughts.

  • Our thoughts become beliefs.

  • Our beliefs shape our behaviours.

  • Our behaviours influence our actions.

And our actions create our reality.

If there is a reality in your life that you want to change, it is worth looking at the story that sits underneath it.

  • Can you catch it?

  • Can you notice it?

  • Can you question it?

  • Is it true?

  • Is it really true?

And even if part of it is true, IS IT HELPFUL?

For many of us, shrinking has become such a familiar habit that we no longer notice we're doing it. We hold back our opinions. We downplay our strengths. We avoid putting ourselves forward. We make ourselves smaller so that nobody feels uncomfortable.

The Solstice feels like an invitation to challenge some of those old stories.

Not aggressively. Not with force.

But with a quiet rebellion.

  • A rebellion that says: what if I stopped apologising for my strengths?

  • What if I stopped dimming my light to make other people comfortable?

  • What if I trusted that my gifts have value?

  • What if I allowed myself to take up the space I'm already standing in?

From a speaking and communication perspective, it feels like a gentle yet rebellious call to arms.

  • Enough.

  • Enough hiding.

  • Enough holding back.

  • Enough waiting for permission.

  • Enough questioning your value.

What if the second half of this year looked different?

What if you spent less time worrying about being judged and more time focusing on what you have to contribute?

What if you shared your ideas more freely?

What if you trusted your voice?

What if you stopped waiting for confidence and started acting from courage instead?

The world doesn't need a smaller version of you.

It needs the version of you that is ready to be seen.
